Palisades is the Best Apartment for Me

I started looking at luxury apartments for rent in Manassas Park VA because after comparing the benefits of renting an apartment versus renting a house, I knew that having an apartment would be a lot nicer and much more convenient for me. I looked at several in Manassas, and it was obvious that Palisades at Manassas Park was the best choice for me. I have a car that I do drive fairly often, but I prefer taking the train into work because of traffic congestion. Palisades was the perfect choice because of this.

I am able to walk to the train station, and I don’t mean a long walk either. Continue reading

I Have My Own Studio in My Apartment

I honestly did not think that I would find the kind of apartment that I have right now. That is why I didn’t even look for Asheville apartments for rent when I needed to find a new place to live. I wanted to have a large work area because I am an artist. I have not hit it big yet, but I do well enough to where I earn my living from it. I needed to have a work area for my studio rather than just a second bedroom that was converted. Continue reading

I Think I Found My New Home

I have been doing pretty well at work lately and so I have decided that it is time for me to get started on looking for a new place. Right now I am checking out the Ballantyne apartments in NC The apartments where I live now have a lot of problems both big and small. One of the things that I really dislike is the fact that the parking lot is really not well lit. If you go out on the balcony in the middle of the night there is a reasonable chance that there will be someone out there trying to break into cars. I had to go get an alarm for my car and these people have set it off three times in the past few months. Of course some of these things could be just random people bumping up against the car, or it could be someone doing it deliberately. Just setting off the alarm to be a punk, which is what one of the kids here told me was happening. Continue reading

I Am Driving a Party Bus

I guess that this is the sort of job that is good if you are trying to be a writer, but of course the big thing is that you have to be able to deal with people that have been drinking. That is something that I am much better at when I have been drinking too, but so far this has worked really well. I got here about two months ago and I am sharing some Summerlin apartments in Las Vegas with two guys who I went to high school with. The two of them got me this job, driving a party bus. Boost Software Announces New Instructional Video for Fixing Windows Installer Problems

PC Health Boost is registry cleaning software that PC users can use to detect and repair serious computer problems such as screen freezes, slow boot time, and DLL errors. Problems that occur in the main files of the Windows operating system can prevent PC Health Boost from performing a complete service. Uncovering these problems and fixing them is not complicated, but not well-known among many PC users. Boost Software recognized this issue and created an instructional video to help users overcome these serious problems.

The new video explains how Windows installer errors can prevent PC Health Boost from performing a complete service. The video then goes through detailed steps of possible solutions to try to fix the errors. Since Windows installer issues can vary in origin, the video first offers basic solutions and then continues with those that require more steps to complete.

Customers who are unable to fix their Windows Installer errors with the proposed solutions or who encounter other difficulties are directed to contact Boost Software technical support via email or phone for additional assistance.

More information about the features and benefits of PC Health Boost is available on the Boost Software website located at http://www.boostsoftware.com

Logitech headsets and webcams for the business professional

As many of you know, I’m a full-time telecommuter. Although a portion of my work involves some travel, most days I am working from home, and a lot of that involves sitting on conference calls with colleagues and customers/partners.

Until recently, much of that required that I be desk-bound.

Anyone who has to work with VOIP and IP-based conferencing systems such as Skype, Microsoft Lync, Cisco WebEx and Citrix GoToMeeting knows that voice quality is everything if you’re going to have an effective business conversation.

And that means using devices that typically tie you to your desk, such as a wired headset or an Bluetooth/USB speakerphone, such as the Plantronics Callisto, which I have and think is an excellent product.

While there are many Bluetooth headsets and earpieces on the market which are perfectly suitable for mobile phone conversations, few are specifically optimized for use with PCs that have VOIP “Soft Phone” software, and do not deliver what I would regard as business critical voice quality.

They are perfectly fine for short calls, but not ideal when you are on a VOIP conference for as much as an hour at a time, or even longer, particularly when you need to be an active participant and when paying close attention to who is speaking and the clarity of what you are saying is essential.

As we all know about Bluetooth when it comes to audio streams, the farther you get away from the transceiver, the worse the audio gets. So it’s not practical to stray too far away from your PC.

Logitech’s latest wireless headsets have been a total game changer for my personal work situation since I’ve been using them the last few months. I’ve been using the H820e stereo version which retails for $199 but can be found for considerably less.

Installation and use of the headset is pretty straightforward — you plug the DECT 6.0 transmitter and charging base into a free USB port on your PC or Mac, and the AC power cord to power the base. The headset charges on the base when not in use, and has a built-in rechargeable battery.

The operating system recognizes it automatically, and depending on the VOIP program you are using, you may need to alter the settings to use the headset as your primary audio device.

If you’re familiar with the DECT 6.0 1.9Ghz wireless transmission standard, particularly if you have cordless phones in your house that use the technology, you know that you can get some pretty impressive range and not lose any voice quality. That’s exactly what the H820e headset gives you for VOIP calls.

My home office is a good 60 feet away from my living room and around 75 feet from my “breakfast area” which has my espresso machine and a table which faces my outdoor patio and pool area with outdoor furniture which is about 100 feet or so away from the base transmitter.

So regardless of what VOIP software I am using, and where I am in my house, I get the same crystal-clear voice quality as if I am sitting right in front of my PC. For example, this wearable computing podcast that I recorded with Rick Vanover of Veeam was actually done in my living room, while wearing the H820e using Skype.

So the quality of the audio is without dispute. What about the overall design and using it?

The H820e was designed

Apple Developer Website Online Again Following Cyberattack

Apple’s developer website was back online Friday, more than a week after it was targeted by a hacker who reportedly attempted to steal personal information, various media outlets have reported.

According to Bloomberg’s Jordan Robertson, the website used by engineers who write Mac and iOS device applications was said to be active as of 5pm Pacific time on July 26. The attack had forced it offline for a total of eight days.

“Developers use the site for software downloads, documentation and engineering information,” Robertson said. “The maker of iPhones and iPads said this week that it’s ‘completely overhauling’ its developer systems to prevent a security threat from happening again. While some of the website’s information was encrypted, Applesaid it hadn’t been able to rule out whether names, mailing addresses or e-mail addresses may have been accessed.”

The website targeted by the cyberattack is used by the Cupertino, California-based tech giant to communicate with its community of nearly six million software developers, according to Reuters reporter Aman Shah. A UK-based Turkish researcher named Ibrahim Balic has claimed responsibility for the attack, which he says was not malicious in nature, but not everyone buys his story.

“Balic, who describes himself as a security consultant, claimed on Sunday that he had discovered a number of weaknesses in the site at developer.apple.com which allowed him to grab email addresses of registered developers,” Guardian reporter Charles Arthur explained. “In all, Balic said he had been able to grab the details of 100,000 people registered on the site, and that he included 73 of them in a bug report to Apple.

“He claimed that he exploited a cross-site scripting (XSS) bug in the site,” he added. “However XSS attacks generally require the attacker – which in this case would be Balic – to ‘infect’ a page with a malicious piece of Javascript or HTML which would then be used to extract data from a visiting user. If Balic’s claim is correct, he seems to have used the XSS exploits against his own system.”

Arthur said they attempted to contact 29 people whose emails were allegedly extracted by Balic during the hacking, but seven of those emails bounced and none of the remaining 22 responded to requests to state whether or not they are registered Apple developers. Furthermore, none of the names or email addresses could be located online, which the Guardian notes would be unusual for active software developers.

“Many of the names and email addresses either don’t look like they would belong to Apple developers, or appear to have left no footprints anywhere else on the net,” added independent security consultant Graham Cluley. In addition, in reference to ten emails featured in a YouTube video created by the alleged hacker, Cluley said, “It’s almost as though these are long-discarded ghost email addresses from years ago or have been used by Balic in his video for reasons best known to himself.”

In related news, a new phishing scam involving Apple has arisen on the heels of the developer website hacking, according to CNET’s Charlie Osborne. Attempting to capitalize on security concerns raised by the cyberattack, the new phishing scam warns users to click on a link in order to change their passwords.

While the email is short, it may appear legitimate to some users, Osborne said. However, it includes a grammar mistake in the title, fails to capitalize Apple on several locations and includes
